Three CT insurers face rate-hike hearings

The Connecticut Insurance Department on Wednesday called for July 27 hearings on proposed rate hikes by insurers Anthem Health Plans, ConnectiCare and Golden Rule.

The proposed increases, which can’t be implemented until the insurance department grants regulatory approval, impact more than 70,000 policyholders in the 2016 coverage year.

Anthem is proposing a 4.7 percent increase on 34,552 policyholders; ConnectiCare is proposing a 9.8 percent increase on 34,000 policyholders; and Golden Rule is proposing an 18.5 percent increase on 2,000 policyholders.

The hearings will be held at 9 a.m. July 27 at the insurance department on 153 Market St. in Hartford.
