Third guilty plea in Bridgeport insurance scam

A Bridgeport chiropractor has become the third health professional to plead guilty in an insurance scam involving auto accidents and personal injury claims, The Associated Press reports.

Thirty-year-old Jennifer Netter pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to make false statements by exaggerating injuries and ordering unnecessary treatments for auto accident victims.

Prosecutors say it was part of a scheme by a personal injury lawyer that involved getting expensive and unnecessary treatments for accident victims, then using medical reports to get large settlements from insurance companies.

Francisco R. Carbone, a 54-year-old former Bridgeport doctor and psychiatrist pleaded guilty Tuesday to four charges. Dr. James Marshall of Monroe pleaded guilty to illegally writing prescriptions at Carbone’s request for patients he never saw.
