A federal jury in South Carolina has awarded the owners of Genesis Press their multi-million-dollar claim against Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. that claimed the owners were part of a conspiracy to burn their own business, according to The Greenville (S.C.) News.
The jury deliberated Thursday after a 10-day federal civil trial to decide whether The Hartford should have to pay for denying Genesis Press’ claim it suffered $12 million in losses, Greenvilleonline.com reports.
The Hartford said it tried to find a way to pay the claim but that circumstantial evidence showed the owners persuaded an alcoholic family to burn their presses for the insurance money in March 2008.
