The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. on Wednesday launched a year-long effort to get its group benefits and mutual fund customers to go paperless and help plant up to 35,000 new trees.
Under “Project Re-Leaf,” The Hartford has committed to underwrite the planting of one tree for each customer who signs up for paperless delivery of account statements. It also pledged a minimum $10,000 donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 10,000 saplings.
The paperless delivery campaign extends through year-end for mutual fund clients and through March 31, 2011 for group benefits customers.
The insurer has declared an April 30 Arbor Day celebration, tied to its bicentennial, for Hartford, Simsbury, Windsor and five other U.S. communities where The Hartford has operations.
The insurer said its environmental commitment extends to using recycled paper for its printing needs; distributing hundreds of thousands of reusable grocery bags; participating in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program; and supporting a sustainable work environment.
