The Hartford installs electric car charging station

The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. will install electric vehicle charging stations in Hartford, Simbsbury and Windsor, to further provide infrastructure for the alternative fuel cars to flourish in Connecticut, the company announced on Wednesday.

“These new charging stations are an exciting and innovative way for The Hartford to show its commitment to Connecticut, its residents and the environment,” Gov. Dannel Malloy said in a press release.

Connecticut already has a number of electric vehicle charging stations, including several installed by Northeast Utilities. One has been proposed for the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The installations came from former Gov. M Jodi Rell’s push to make Connecticut accessible to the electric vehicle market. Nissan and Chevrolet already highlighted Connecticut one of their first markets for their respective electric vehicles.

The Hartford on Wednesday said the company will change its homeowners insurance policies to reflect the environmental movement. Changes include electric vehicle charger coverage and coverage for environmentally-friendly building materials. Those product will be available by the end of the year, the company said.
