The Hartford goes auto racing

Hartford Financial Servics Group Inc. has signed on to sponsor racing drivers Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton, who will help market The Hartford’s auto and homeowner insurance products.

The Hartford-based insurer said it will sponsor Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 Chevrolet Impala SS and driver Clint Bowyer at three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Dover International Speedway on May 31, New Hampshire Motor Speedway on June 28 and Pocono Raceway on Aug. 2.

The Hartford, which this week was granted clearance Connecticut insurance regulators to use accounting treatment to boost capital, also will be an associate sponsor of the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevy and driver Jeff Burton in the Sprint Cup Series. Both Bowyer and Burton will be spokesmen for the program, which will focus primarily on automobile and home insurance.

The cars will feature the company’s iconic stag logo, the company said.
