The Hartford Donates $100,000

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. has made a $100,000 grant to Covenant Preparatory School. The tuition-free middle school for boys, located in Hartford’s Asylum Hill neighborhood, will use the grant to help fund its recent classroom expansion and renovations. In addition, The Hartford will sponsor Junior Achievement programming at the school, with customized programs focused on workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Employees from The Hartford regularly volunteer at Covenant Prep as tutors and many make personal financial contributions to the school through the United Way Community Campaign. The Hartford provided a $150,000 grant to Covenant Prep School in 2008 to support the completion of the school’s building renovations. The Hartford announced in November that it would partner with the city of Hartford and Asylum Hill community organizations to contribute $7 million over five years to key revitalization projects and strategic partnerships. This commitment will provide funding for education, community support services and neighborhood revitalization.
