Mission: A statewide public/private alliance focused on Connecticut’s youth, The Governor’s Prevention Partnership works toward building a strong, healthy future workforce through leadership in mentoring and prevention of violence, underage drinking, alcohol and drug abuse.
Background:
Founded in 1989 by Governor William A. O’Neill as a partnership between state government and corporate leaders, the partnership’s work is rooted in the vision that youth success at home, at school and in their communities will result in their ability to be productive members of society as adults. With partners, The Governor’s Prevention Partnership addresses barriers to success. The partnership provides leadership and services to help schools, communities, youth organizations and businesses to create and sustain quality programs in the areas of: mentoring, prevention of underage drinking, positive youth development, positive school climate, responding to emerging threats and raising awareness through the media.
Major Fundraiser: The 20th annual Governor’s Luncheon will be held in Wethersfield this October to honor the partnership’s corporate partners. This year’s celebration will focus on the culmination of the partnership’s “20 at $20,000” campaign, recognizing 20 corporate partners who have supported the partnership at the $20,000 level in celebration of its 20th anniversary.
Volunteer Needs: A number of volunteer opportunities are available including internships and becoming a mentor. For more information about these opportunities, call 860.523.8042.
