The state’s first self-pour taproom in Avon has a beer-dispensing system that allows patrons to draw their own beverages, paying about 50 cents to $1 per ounce.
Try-It Taproom at 300 West Main St. uses PourMyBeverage technology – developed by a company in Wheeling, Illinois – to allow customers to pour their own drinks.
There’s no bartender, but a wall lined with 44 taps featuring craft beer, cider and cocktails, many of which are from Connecticut. Customers prepay with a debit or credit card and receive a card they can swipe to receive a limited number of pours. A screen displays their remaining balance. A valid ID is required.
The self-serve taproom was made possible by a 2021 state law that legalized the practice.
“It’s such a rewarding experience to see our patrons turn the corner and see our vast 44 self-serve tapwall for the first time,” said Michelle Norris, owner of Tri-It Taproom.
The taproom offers a rotating selection of drinks, along with food.
On-tap beverages include Two Roads Brewing’s H2Roads hard seltzer, Thimble Island’s Rita sour ale and Beer’d Brewing’s raspberry Berliner weisse, along with several IPAs, saisons, pilsners, lagers, Belgians, stouts, wheat bears and pale ales. There’s also a pumpkin porter from Thimble Island, OEC’s Coolship Lager and East Hartford Brewing’s Ten Penny Scottish ale.
