Thames Shipyard nets $422K DOT grant

The Thames Shipyard & Repair in New London will receive just over $422,000 from the federal Department of Transportation, U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney’s office announced.

The shipyard will use the money to implement an environmentally-friendly and ultrahigh-pressure surface preparation system, allowing it to serve more ships that need removal of paints or coatings.

“We recognize the importance of quality and timely ship repair in the commercial industries we serve, and this project will ensure Thames Shipyard remains a leader in the Northeast,” John P. Wronowski, president of Thames Shipyard & Repair Co., said in a statement.
