Caring Senior Service, a Texas-based home care company, has opened an office in West Hartford, its first location in the Northeast.
The new franchise, at 901 Farmington Ave., is owned by Bloomfield native Taniesha Thomas, a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
Founded in 1991 and based in San Antonio, Caring Senior Service provides non-medical home and companion care for seniors, people with disabilities and other adults in need of help with everyday activities.
The company began franchising in 2002 and now has more than 50 locations nationwide.
Thomas has hired two employees — a home care consultant and a care manager — and is hiring caregivers. Caregivers must have at least one year of experience or a CNA credential, according to the company.
The West Hartford franchise will serve clients throughout Hartford County and surrounding communities. There are no eligibility requirements to receive services, the company said.
Services include assistance with bathing and other personal care, running errands, preparing meals, and other daily activities designed to allow older adults to remain in their homes.
The services are not covered by insurance, the company said.
The company cited the Hartford area’s aging population as one reason for its expansion into Connecticut. According to the the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS), an estimated 17.9% of the population of Hartford County is age 65 and older.
Caring Senior Service founder and CEO Jeff Salter said Thomas’ caregiving experience and local ties made her a good fit to lead the company’s Connecticut expansion.
The West Hartford office may not be the company’s only Connecticut location for long. Caring Senior Service said it plans to open a second office in the state within the next 12 months, but did not specify a location.
