Tesseract Health names new CEO

Tesseract Health Inc. of Guilford has named entrepreneur Vasiliki (Vicky) Demas as its chief executive officer.

Demas, who has two decades of experience in the areas of medical devices and nanotechnology, will start the new job on Aug. 1.

The company, which was founded in 2018, focuses on using the human eye as a diagnostic tool for underlying diseases. It is developing a Tesseract iC platform, a portable, binocular-like eye-imaging device.

Jonathan Rothberg, the company’s founder, said its mission is to “democratize healthcare on a global scale.”

Rothberg said Demas has the “leadership, technical and strategic acumen,” to lead the company as it works to improve health care.

Demas said, “I am excited and honored to join Jonathan and the Tesseract team to help develop and bring to patients a new platform for the monitoring and early diagnosis of disease.” 

Demas previously led the development of new products at the cancer screening company GRAIL.

Frontier Communications names new investor relations executive

Frontier Communications has named Spencer Kurn to the role of senior vice president of investor relations. 

Kurn will report to the Norwalk-based telecommunications company’s Chief Financial Officer Scott Beasley.

“As a highly respected analyst in the telecommunications industry, Spencer brings deep experience and trust-based relationships,” Beasley said, in an announcement. “ He is well positioned to lead our engagement with analysts and investors during our business transformation and beyond.”

Kurn previously was an analyst with New Street Research, an independent equity research firm focused on the telecommunications sector. He has also held analyst roles on the telecommunications equity research team at Credit Suisse and the international equity research team at Putnam Investments.

Elm City-based architectural firm names new principal

Newman Architects, a New Haven-based architecture and planning firm, has promoted Melinda Marlén Agron to principal.

She joined the firm in 2018, and her fellow principals noted she has introduced concepts that have expanded the firm’s services and built new client relationships during her tenure.

“Melinda’s promotion is integral to Newman’s plans for the future,” said Richard Munday, also a principal with the firm. “She represents a fresh viewpoint and commitment to design and practice innovation that will shape the firm now and into the future.”

In her new role, Agron will take on a greater role in the operational and financial management of the firm.
