More than a quarter of complaints filed with the Department of Consumer Protection last year were related to Frontier Communications’ switchover of its newly acquired AT&T systems, the department said Tuesday.
DCP did not name Frontier in its announcement, but said nearly 1,400 telecom complaints of the 5,500 total complaints received last year “were about billing and service issues following a transition between providers of U-verse, landline, and broadband Internet service last fall.”
CT News Junkie reported less than a month after the Oct. 25 AT&T acquisition that Frontier-related complaints totaled 840.
Telecom easily overtook the top complaint category of 2013, which was related to the closure of a home heating oil provider and gas pump glitches and signage. Fuel complaints totaled 17.5 percent of more than 6,000 total complaints in 2013, but fell to fourth place last year.
In second place for 2014 was telemarketing, which overtook home contractors and builders — the top category of 2012.
