TD Bank closing six Connecticut branches

TD Bank will close one of its two Hartford branches and five others across the state as part of a broader consolidation up and down its East Coast turf.

The Toronto-Dominion Bank subsidiary notified its U.S. federal regulator last month that it plans to shutter its South End branch at 2035 Broad St. in Hartford, as well as five branches outside of the Greater Hartford region, including:

  • 503 Middlebury Road/Rte. 64, Middlebury
  • 272 Elm St., New Canaan
  • 636 Campbell Ave., West Haven
  • 200 New Hartford Road, Winsted
  • 128 Amity Road, Woodbridge

The six closures would amount to nearly 10% of TD Bank’s Connecticut branch footprint. It currently has 63 locations, including 22 in Hartford County.

The closures are part of a broader consolidation at the bank, which is a subsidiary of the Canadian Toronto-Dominion Bank and has been in the Connecticut market since 1999.

In all, TD Bank intends to shutter 81 branches by April 23 across its Maine-to-Florida turf, including about 20 in New England.

TD Bank’s announcement comes on the heels of brick-and-mortar consolidation plans recently unveiled by Webster Bank and Berkshire Bank.

Assuming the Connecticut closures are approved, TD would have one remaining branch in the Capital City, its glass-enclosed downtown branch at 203 Trumbull St., located at the base of the Hartford 21 apartment tower.
