Federal workplace safety inspectors have proposed a $65,000 fine for clothing retailer Guess Factory Outlet after an inspection at its store inside Foxwoods uncovered a blocked emergency exit and other violations.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Friday that an exit route and electrical panels obstructed by boxes, shelves and ladders placed employees at risk of burns or and other injuries. Boxes were also unsafely stacked in a storage room and bathroom, the federal agency said.
The initial proposed penalty is relatively high because OSHA found similar violations at a New Jersey store in 2013. The retailer has the right to contest the fine, which could eventually be lowered.
OSHA inspectors said they visited the store, which is located inside the Tanger Outlets section of Foxwoods, on March 3 after receiving a complaint.
