A new report may have parents thinking twice before telling their kids to turn off those video games.
The Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council says video game companies make up a $2 billion industry in the state that employs more than 1,200 technology professionals — with that number expected to grow by 20 percent this year alone.
A survey of more than 30 digital gaming companies in Massachusetts found that nearly half had been in business for five years or longer. One of the more prominent firms, Cambridge-based Harmonix Music Systems, designed the recently released best-seller “The Beatles: Rock Band.”
The council also reports that there are 15 programs at colleges and universities in Massachusetts to prepare students for possible careers in the video gaming industry. (AP)
