More employers are giving extra paid time off this holiday season, partly because Christmas falls on a Thursday, according to a survey by Bloomberg BNA.
Of the companies surveyed, 61 percent were giving three or more paid days off this month, up from 52 percent last year, when Christmas was on a Wednesday.
A third of companies said they will have a few workers on duty on holidays. Many are in maintenance, public safety, security, or technical roles.
For those who do schedule workers on holidays, 65 percent will provide time-and-a-half or double-time pay and 12 percent will give compensatory time off in addition to the higher pay rate.
Three in 10 companies plan to reward employees with holiday bonuses, while half plan to give gift cards and other presents.
