Stephen T. Surprenant has joined St. Francis Care, parent of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, as vice president, mission integration. Mr. Surprenant will report directly to Christopher M. Dadlez, President and Chief Executive Officer.
Surprenant previously served as senior vice president and chief operating officer with Mercy Community Health, a not-for-profit, mission-based aging services network, which includes a continuing care retirement community and a long-term care facility. During his career with the Mercy Community, he served as the administrator for several of the Mercy subsidiaries, including The McAuley Center, Inc., Mercy Community HomeCare, Inc., and Mercyknoll, Inc. Before joining Mercy Community Health, he filled similar roles for the Arbors at Hop Brook in Manchester.
He is a member of the Advisory Committee for Partners in CPE Program for St. Francis and has led a “Values in Practice” culture change initiative for the Mercy Community for over nine years. He serves as faculty for the Excellence in Ministry Formation Program offered by Catholic Health East and was a member of CHE’s Ministry Leadership Academy inaugural class. Early in his career, he served as both a parochial vicar and hospital chaplain. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford teaching courses in leadership and management.
