Stop & Shop is continuing to expand its workforce across its five state footprint.
The Quincy, Mass.-based supermarket chain announced this week it plans to fill more than 5,000 positions, including in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The new positions are in addition to the 5,000 the company announced it planned to fill earlier in the pandemic, back in March.
Maria Silvestri, the chain’s senior vice president of human resources, said the need for more team members comes as the company expands its e-commerce capacity.
The company has seen increased demand for its grocery delivery service due to the pandemic.
“We’re happy to be able to offer professional opportunities with stability for the many whose jobs may have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Silvestri said in an announcement.
The positions are for roles in the chain’s stores, home delivery and distribution centers. The company is hiring for various spots, in bakery, deli, grocery, seafood, produce, front end, night crew and online pickup. The company also needs home delivery drivers and shoppers, and selectors at its distribution centers.
Meanwhile, Stop & Shop’s pharmacies will be administering future COVID-19 vaccines once they are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The company employs some 60,000 workers in more than 400 stores. For more information, visit stopandshop.com.
