Summer gasoline to be lowest in 3 years

The average price of unleaded gasoline nationally is supposed to be $3.63 per gallon this summer, lower than the previous two years, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Connecticut gasoline prices tend to be higher than the national average, usually among the top five highest gasoline price states. However, the rise and fall of gasoline prices in Connecticut is largely driven by national factors – crude oil prices and gasoline consumption – so the state’s prices this summer should reflect the EIA’s national prediction.

The $3.63 per gallon predicted nationally this summer is 6 cents below summer 2012 and 8 cents below 2011. The price is still nearly a whole dollar above 2010 levels when the cost was $2.76 per gallon.

Regionally, EIA predicts the East Coast will have an average price of $3.61 this summer, the second highest region in the nation behind the West Coast’s $3.89.
