Suffield-based family medical practitioner Dr. William Garrity paid $1.4 million in early September for a new 4,612-square-foot medical building adjacent to the one in which he currently leases an office.
The plan, Garrity said, is to band together with doctors from various specialties to offer old-fashioned care delivered directly by doctors, rather than subordinates.
“They’ll be seeing physicians, not just a nurse,” Garrity said. “They’ll not walk out without seeing the medical doctor.”
The new office at 200 Mountain Road has a working title of “Board Certified Md’s.” Garrity said he plans it as a departure from the industrialized, rapid-fire, modern model of patient care.
It will not be a practice of affiliated doctors, but rather an office in which doctors from a variety of specialties and affiliations can offer that convenient care to local patients, he said.
Garrity, who does not yet have a launch date, said he is currently recruiting doctors with a variety of specialties – cardiologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, dermatologists and others. These doctors could use the office to see patients in the greater-Suffield area, he said. While participating doctors would maintain separate practices, they could take advantage of common clerical staff, common waiting areas and joint marketing, including a website, Garrity said.
“The hospitals won’t own this entity and determine who goes in there,” Garrity said. “It will be diversified and representative of the more critical and common areas that define medicine.”
Garrity purchased the property through his business entity, Board Certified Md’s LLC, from 230 Mountain Road LLC, in a deal recorded by the town on Sept. 1.
The seller’s principals are Elzear and Patricia Roy, of Suffield. Garrity said Elzear Roy is a well-known local builder who built the office to suit his business plan.
