Subway picks new SVP of Development

The Subway restaurant chain has selected Steve Rafferty as its new senior vice president of development for North America.

Rafferty is responsible for leading the Milford-based company’s strategic direction for business development, supporting a network of Subway developers and leading growth initiatives for new and existing franchisees. 

Trevor Haynes, president of Subway North America, said Rafferty “has the deep experience to successfully lead teams to achieve new franchise recruitment, unit growth, and new market entry goals.”

Rafferty has more than 35 years in franchise business development. He has led growth strategies at Yum Brands, Burger King and PepsiCo. He joins Subway from Dunkin Brands, where he served as senior director of U.S. business development.

Medtronic executive lands Yale gig 

Dan Volz, vice president of Americas at Medtronic, has been named a Yale University entrepreneur-in-residence.

The Yale entrepreneurs-in-residence roster currently includes 62 industry professionals who specialize in various areas. Each has experience turning new technologies into businesses. These experts act as a sounding board for Yale innovators contemplating a new startup.

James Boyle, who leads the program, said he views Volz as an important advisor for its medtech efforts.

Volz said he is excited to work with Boyle and the team at Yale’s Office of Cooperative Research as a member of the program.

“Being part of the engine that turns innovation into impact is a personal and professional passion of mine,” Volz said.

Edgewell picks new diversity leader 

Edgewell Personal Care Co. of Shelton announced Karen Anderson has been appointed as its new director of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Anderson, who has been with the company for more than five years, will report directly to Chief Human Resources Officer John Hill.

Prior to her appointment, Anderson was a director of human resources, and worked closely with the company’s leaders to set priorities for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Anderson said she will work to ensure that “everyone has a platform to be seen for who they really are and heard for their unique experiences, with equal opportunities to succeed.” 

The company manufactures razors, suncare lotion and other personal care products.

BioXcel Therapeutics appoints new legal officer

BioXcel Therapeutics Inc. of New Haven has selected Javier Rodriguez to serve as its senior vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary.

The clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company uses artificial intelligence to develop medicines in the areas of neuroscience and immuno-oncology,

Rodriguez, who has two decades of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry,  will report to CEO Vimal Mehta.

“Javier’s proven track record and broad legal expertise within the life sciences – spanning commercial, clinical and intellectual property activities – makes him an invaluable addition to our management team,” Mehta said in an announcement. “We look forward to leveraging his vast knowledge as we advance on our path to commercialization.”

Rodriguez previously worked at companies such as Indivior, Reckitt Benckiser, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Berlex Inc.
