Restaurant giant Subway announced Monday it has officially opened its new 90,000-square-foot global dual-headquarters in Shelton.
The three-story office building is located in Shelton’s business district, at 1 Corporate Drive.
It features an open floor plan with several conference, huddle and multipurpose rooms, and a space called “The Lounge,” for employees to meet, dine and socialize.
Subway’s Connecticut-based employees have fully transitioned to the new Shelton building, the company said. This includes workers in essential business functions such as human resources, finance and legal departments.
Previously, Subway made its home in Milford.
The new Shelton location serves as its dual-headquarters with Subway’s Miami site, which opened last year and is home to consumer-facing functions and Latin America regional office staff.
Subway Chief Executive Officer John Chidsey said Connecticut has “been at the heart of Subway’s story for nearly 60 years.”
“The strategic relocation of our global dual-headquarters to Shelton will provide employees with a world-class workplace and unlock access to services to help enhance their wellbeing,” Chidsey said. “It will serve as a showcase of our brand and a welcoming place for guests to visit.”
Subway officials said the new headquarters is an upgraded and modernized workspace for employees. They will have access to amenities within the R.D Scinto’s Enterprise Corporate Park, such as dining, fitness and childcare centers, and healthcare providers.
Bill Ekstrom, director of business services for Subway, called the new Shelton headquarters an important step in modernizing the brand, which includes some 37,000 restaurants across more than 100 countries. Its restaurants are owned and operated by franchisees.
Back in August, Subway announced its acquisition by Roark Capital, an Atlanta‐based private equity firm. Roark Capital describes the food and restaurant industry as its largest sector, with investments in brands such as Dunkin’, Buffalo Wild Wings, Carvel Ice Cream and Cinnabon.
