Milford sandwich chain Subway said it has opened its 40,000th location at a gas station in England.
The company, which has been franchising since 1965, has opened 1,761 locations around the world this year.
Subway became the largest restaurant chain in the world in 2011, surpassing McDonalds, which at the end of 2012 had more than 34,000.
The United Kingdom is Subway’s third-largest market behind the United States and Canada.
