Subway co-founder solicits nonprofit grant apps

The philanthropic foundation of Fred DeLuca, who co-founded the Subway sandwich chain 46 years ago in Milford, is accepting grant proposals for consideration of projects in the U.S., mainly in Connecticut.

The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation in Milford assists public charities with grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to help give others a chance in life.

Concentration is on education, job training, and the arts, but is open to any nonprofit organizations. The foundation does not make grants to individuals.

The foundation says it discourages elaborate proposals that are only accepted annually from Sept. 1 through Oct. 8. Decisions will be made by New Year’s Eve.
