Substance abuse treatment orgs to merge

A pair of nonprofit substance abuse treatment providers have agreed to merge operations, a recent state filing shows.

Middletown-based Gilead Community Services Inc., a subsidiary of Hartford nonprofit Oak Hill, is seeking to acquire New Britain’s Farrell Treatment Center Inc. in a deal that would retain brands and programs for both organizations, according to a recent filing with the Connecticut Office of Health Strategy.

Financial terms were not disclosed in the filing, which said the estimated closing date is July 1.

According to the proposed deal, Farrell would merge its New Britain-based substance abuse treatment facility and psychiatric outpatient clinic with Gilead, which intends to maintain current operations.

Both organizations assured state health officials that their target clientele would not change following the merger.

Farrell’s treatment center at 568 Main St. houses up to 24 intensive treatment beds and its clinic at 19 Bassett St. provides outpatient treatment services.

Gilead, meantime, operates two psychiatric outpatient clinics for adults in Middletown and Chester, two mental health residential facilities in Middletown and another in Clinton. It’s administrative offices are headquartered at 230 Main St. Extension in Middletown.
