STR to bring Chinese facility online

On the heels of an agreement with a Chinese manufacturer to make its products, Enfield solar encapsulant provider STR Holdings on Tuesday said it will open its Chinese facility in the second quarter.

STR leased the facility in Suzhou, China when the company was expanding further into Asia, but the renovation was held up as the firm struggled with falling revenues and the loss of its top customer in the world, FirstSolar.

STR on Monday announced a contract manufacturing agreement with ZheJiang FeiYu Photo-Electrical Science & Technology Co., Ltd. to make its solar encapsulants in China, which protect photovoltaic cells from weather and other damage.

As it brings the Suzhou facility online, STR anticipates increased demand and plans to partner with other third-party manufacturers in addition to FeiYu.
