Enfield solar parts manufacturer STR Holdings has named an executive from its majority owner as the head of its China sales.
As part of an agreement with Zhenfa Energy Group – which purchased a 51 percent stake in STR for $22 million in August – STR picked Kong Weijie, a Zhenfa vice general manager, as the STR sales director for China.
That agreement also calls on Zhenfa to help STR with the marketing, branding, and selling of its products to Chinese solar panel makers. STR makes an encapsulant that protects the photovoltaic cells in solar panels.
Before Zhenfa stepped in to buy the company, STR considered liquidating the company as the global solar panel market had softened. The new deal helps the company enter into the lucrative Chinese solar panel market.
Before becoming STR China sales director, Weijie held various positions where he gained experience in government relations, team management, project management, investment management, and high-value contract negotiation.
