STR Holdings appoints board member

Enfield-based STR Holdings, a manufacturer of components used to make solar panels, said it has appointed an engineer and project manager to its board of directors.

The appointment of Lenian Charles Zha, who works for Cisco Systems and is also CEO of business consultancy BiLink Inc., is the result of an agreement reached more than two years ago when a Chinese company, Zhenfa Energy Group, acquired a majority stake in STR.

Zha, 54, joins the seven member board several months after the resignation of another Zhenfa-selected member, Gokalp Bayramoglu.

The publicly traded STR has said it is evaluating strategic alternatives, after a plan to build up its market presence in China hasn’t gone as well as hoped.

As it assesses other options, STR this month signed a retention deal with a key executive to encourage him to remain with the company throughout the process.

CFO Thomas D. Vitro will be eligible to receive $200,000 if he stays continuously employed at STR through the end of 2018, the company said in a U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission filing.
