Enfield solar manufacturer STR Holdings completed the land acquition of the site for its new East Windsor facility, the company announced on Monday.
The previously announced 275,000 sq. ft. facilities will house product management and sales teams, and a 20,000 sq. ft. research and development laboratory.
The terms of the land acquisition were not disclosed.
The company will close its manufacturing operations in Enfield and Somers in the next 12 months and will install 1.2 gigawatts of new production equipment at the new facility by the third quarter of 2011.
“The acquisition of our new East Windsor facility marks another important milestone for STR Solar,” said Dennis L. Jilot, STR chairman, president and CEO, in a statement. “This facility will provide ample space to increase Connecticut production capacity up to approximately 6.0 GW in support of our continued strong growth.”
STR has seen strong growth in its solar sales – revenues from solar are nearly double 2009 – particularly in Asia.
