Hartford Stage Managing Director Mike Stotts announced Wednesday he is stepping down from his post next year after 12 years.
Stotts said he will resign Jan. 25, 2019 and become the managing director at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse. Hartford Stage said it will launch a national search for his replacement.

Since 2006, Stotts has managed the Hartford Stage’s finances, development, marketing and operations. He also managed its campaigns to expand and renovate its theatre venue.
Stotts, the company’s seventh managing director in 55 years, helped the venue produce several critically acclaimed performances, co-leading its operations with several artistic directors, Hartford Stage said.
The company has also grown during his tenure to serve over 21,000 students annually.
“I am most proud of the accomplished artistic work we have produced here in Hartford, much of which has had a life beyond our stage,” Stotts said in a statement. “I am equally proud of our work in the Greater Hartford community with our extensive education and community outreach programs.”
Before arriving in the Capital City, Stotts served as managing director of Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, New Jersey’s George Street Playhouse and The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.
Stotts was hired by Paper Mill Playhouse in 2006 as a consultant for institutional planning and advancement to assist fundraising, strategic planning and capital campaign research.
Paper Mill Playhouse operates a 1,200-seat theatre in Millburn, N.J., about 20 miles outside New York City.
