Branford-based Stony Creek Brewery launched a new lager this week in support of erecting an Afghanistan and Iraq War veterans memorial in the state.
“Area of Operations (AO) Lager” debuted on Thursday at an event at the brewery. For every beer purchased, Stony Creek Brewery will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Afghanistan Iraq Veterans War Memorial Fund.
AO Lager is available in cans at stores around the region, according to Stony Creek.
Stony Creek Brewery President Ed Crowley Jr. said, “AO Lager is a tribute to the brave men and women who served selflessly in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Everybody who purchases this lager will be honoring these veterans.”
The Afghanistan Iraq Veterans War Memorial Fund plans Connecticut’s first memorial honoring Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. It will be erected at the War Memorial site at Rogers Park in Danbury.
Due to federal statutes, a federal monument would not be considered for these veterans until the year 2031.
Stony Creek described AO Lager as a traditional Dortmunder lager, 5.2% abv, “brewed in the classic German style with an American twist. The smooth mouthful and noble aroma create an appealing lager with spicy-herbal notes.”
