Stew Leonard’s again ranks as best workplace

Norwalk grocer Stew Leonard’s, with a store in Newington, is on Fortune magazine’s 100 best workplaces for the ninth consecutive year.

Stew Leonard’s ranks No. 64 on Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” in 2010, according to the magazine’s February issue.

Founded in 1921 as Clover Farms Dairy, the retailer has 2,500 employees in four stores, also in Norwalk, Danbury and Yonkers, N.Y.

“We’ve implemented extensive training and mentoring programs to help our team excel and grow within the company and have been rewarded with tremendous loyalty and longevity — something that makes us all very proud,” CEO Stew Leonard Jr. said in a statement.

His father, Stew Leonard Sr. recently published a book, “Stew Leonard, My Story,” chronicling the family’s experiences building an enterprise renowned for its customer service.

Another Norwalk company, FactSet Research Systems, was No. 48.
