Connecticut saw a steep drop in the number of housing permits issued in November, according to data from the state Department of Economic and Community Development released this week.
There were 268 permits authorized by towns and cities this November, compared to 492 last year – a decrease of 45.5%.
The drop follows an overall trend of more housing units being added this year compared to 2022.Â
At the end of November 2022, 4,719 housing permits had been issued in Connecticut. This year’s year-to-date total is 4,843.
In 2022, there were 525 housing permits issued in December. This year’s total will be released next month.
This November, New Haven authorized the most units at 28, followed by Seymour (13), Newington (12), Brookfield (11) and East Hampton (11).
So far this year, Stamford issued the most housing permits at 419 – up 181.2% from 2022’s total of 149.
