State’s labor demand increases

The demand for Connecticut-based jobs is on the increase. Job listings saw an jump in October.

The state Department of Labor’s Connecticut Economic Digest for December said online labor demand rose by 1,700 jobs in October. It reported The Conference Board’s Help Wanted OnLine data showed there were 78,400 advertisements for Connecticut-based jobs in October 2015.

That represented a 2.2 percent increase over the month and a 10.6 percent increase over

the year. There were 4.13 advertised vacancies for every 100 people in Connecticut’s labor force, while nationally it was 3.48 percent. Among the New England states, Massachusetts had the highest labor demand rate (4.79), while Maine had the lowest rate (3.47) in October.

In the Hartford area, there were 31,500 advertisements for jobs in October. That was up from 29,900 jobs in September and 27,300 jobs year over year.

The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine Data Series measures the number of new, first-time online jobs and jobs reposted from the previous month for over 16,000 Internet job boards, corporate boards and smaller job sites that serve niche markets and smaller geographic areas.
