State’s IT job listings dropped in April

Connecticut IT job listings fell in April for a second month in a row, this time down 9.3 percent against the March drop.

The monthly Connecticut IT Job Trends Report, produced by the Connecticut Technology Council, said contributing factors include employers who are continuing to hold the line or trim their IT workforce, particularly in the healthcare, banking and IT services industries. New job openings held steady in the insurance and hi-tech industries.

The report also said it will take years before losses of STEM jobs can be recovered after major employers with high demand for this skill set are either shrinking their workforce or leaving the state altogether.

But recent disappointing numbers in new IT hiring follow employment increases in February compared to January, after a flat 2015, so there is hope that IT hiring activity will spark again in coming months, the report said. Also, IT professionals in Connecticut received higher levels of payroll increases in April, according to the Department of Labor.
