With nearly 700 new parking spaces and a $60 million price tag, the latest design for a second parking garage for New Haven’s Union Station transit hub was presented to the Connecticut Commuter Rail Council at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night.
According to the New Haven Independent, the latest version of the garage features more parking for bikes and exterior improvements based on feedback from residents and city officials.
The new garage, with seven levels and a total of 1,015 spaces, is slated to replace a 260-space surface lot across from New Haven police headquarters. A bridge is planned to connect the new garage with the existing parking structure next to Union Station, run by the city of New Haven. Construction on the new garage will be funded entirely by the state. It is expected to commence by the end of 2019 and be completed by the middle of 2021.
