State Treasurer Erick Russell has appointed Kerry A. Kelley as Connecticut’s next deputy treasurer, effective Sept. 18.
Kelley is executive vice president of operations and chief financial officer for Connecticut State Community College, where she oversees financial strategy and operations across 12 campuses.
She previously served as fiscal and program policy section chief for education and workforce programs at the state Office of Policy and Management. She also worked as a budget analyst for the General Assembly’s nonpartisan Office of Fiscal Analysis.
Kelley will succeed Sarah K. Sanders, who is leaving the state Treasurer’s Office to become finance director for the town of Old Saybrook.
Sanders has worked for the Treasurer’s Office for more than 27 years, beginning in 1997. She left the agency from 2017 to 2019 to serve as finance director at Rhode Island Housing before returning to lead the Treasury’s debt management division. Russell appointed her deputy treasurer in 2023.
The deputy treasurer advises Russell and helps oversee the agency’s financial operations, including cash management, bond issuances and the state’s unclaimed property program.
