Approximately three dozen hospital executives earned more than $1 million in combined salary and fringe benefits in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2015, according to new data released by the Connecticut Department of Public Health’s Office of Health Care Access.
The data for the most recent list include the 10 highest paid positions for each acute care hospital in the state, as well as for their respective parent companies.
The highest paid hospital or system exec in Connecticut during the fiscal year was Marna Borgstrom, CEO of Yale-New Haven Hospital and president and CEO of Yale-New Haven Health Services Corp. Inc. Borgstrom earned $3.6 million, including $2.7 million in salary.
In Greater Hartford region, Steven Hanks, regional vice president of medical affairs for the central region of Hartford HealthCare Corp., was highest paid in fiscal year 2015, with pay and benefits totaling $2.6 million. That was slightly more than the total $2.4 million salary and benefits earned by Hartford HealthCare President and CEO Elliott Joseph.
Also in Hartford, Christopher Dadlez, who in 2015 was president and CEO of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, was third-highest paid, at $1.8 million, according to OHCA. Dadlez has since been promoted to president and CEO of Trinity-Health New England, which includes St. Francis.
Last year, the state released the top 10 highest paid positions for hospitals, but this year’s data included health systems. That makes comparisons to the previous fiscal year somewhat complicated.
In 2014, 19 Connecticut hospital executives earned more than $1 million in total compensation, the state said.
