The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) has earmarked $5 million for brownfield remediation and assessment projects, state officials announced.
Applications for $4 million in remediation funding and $1 million for assessment projects will be accepted through May 16 at 3 p.m., the department said. This is the eleventh round of competitive grant funding the state has offered, said Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.
Eligible applicants for grant funding include municipalities and economic development agencies. Applicants can request funding of up to $2 million for remediation projects and up to $200,000 for assessment projects.
Connecticut has shown commitment to repurpose such properties so they “add value and boost local economies,” Malloy said. Since 2012, the state has invested $191 million to investigate, clean up, and help revitalize more than 160 old or vacant factories, mills, warehouses and other contaminated sites and structures, he said.
