The state’s Office of Policy Management has awarded grants totaling $2.4 million to Farmington, Avon, Milford, Chester, Sprague and New Chester, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office announced.
The money will help pay for sidewalks, lighting, athletic turf, a boardwalk and other capital improvements.
Avon will use its $450,000 to install handicap-accessible sidewalks and decorative lighting for its Village Center Streetscape Improvement Project.
Farmington received $500,000 to install synthetic turf and make drainage improvements at its high school football field.
The grants are the first round of funding under the Small Town Economic Assistance Program, or STEAP. State officials will consider other funding awards on a rolling basis throughout the year.
