State finalizes $34.5M Hartford office purchase

The state is officially the new owner of another downtown Hartford Class A office tower.

Government officials have closed on their $34.5 million purchase of the two-tower Connecticut River Plaza office complex.

The purchase, which was announced earlier this year, is part of the state’s strategy to move more workers to downtown Hartford. The building’s new tenants will include the Department of Revenue Services and Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, which are currently housed in the state owned office building at 25 Sigourney St. in Hartford, said Jeffrey Beckham, a spokesman for the Department of Administrative Services.

It’s not yet clear, what other agencies will move into the building, Beckham said.

The state earlier this year also paid $18 million to purchase 55 Farmington Ave., which was formerly owned by The Hartford Financial Services Group.

State workers are expected to start moving into that 263,000-square-foot office building next year.
