State DOT ends mask mandate on some public transit services

Masks are no longer required on most state public transportation service lines, the state Department of Transportation announced this week.

The state DOT said on Wednesday that masks are no longer required on CTtransit, Hartford Line and Shore Line East services and its facilities in Connecticut. The DOT began requiring masks two years ago while the COVID-19 pandemic began to hit the state.

The mandate lift doesn’t include the New Haven Line services in Connecticut, which are operated by Metro-North and are following orders consistent with New York.

DOT officials said the department will respond accordingly to future mandates and directives should rules change.
