Medical marijuana cultivation in Connecticut will take place in Simsbury, West Haven, Watertown and Portland, state officials announced this morning.
Regulators chose four pot growing businesses out of a total of 16 that applied for a license last year.
The businesses are Curaleaf in Simsbury, Advanced Grow Labs in West Haven, Theraplant in Watertown and Connecticut Pharmaceutical Solutions in Portland.
Between them, they will create about 100 jobs this summer, according to William Rubenstein, commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection.
Officials said that the selections were based on financial stability, relevant experience, location, site plan, and security and marketing plans.
Each of the four must now make arrangements to escrow a required $2 million with the state and pay their licensing fees.
They are required to be operating within six months.
State regulators said they plan to select the first two of as many as five dispensary licenses in the next two months.
There are 1,684 medical marijuana patients registered in the state as of today, officials said.
