The upcoming State Bond Commission meeting has $839 million worth of projects on its agenda, the governor’s office announced this week, spanning from local road upgrades to improvements for the rail and train system.
Gov Ned Lamont announced this week that he has placed $839 million worth of upgrades to Connecticut’s transportation system on the agenda for the State Bond Commission’s meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Lamont serves as chairman of the commission and ultimately determines what projects get placed on its agenda. The projects are expected to be funded through the recently adopted federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, his office said.
Among other items, some transportation upgrades on the meeting agenda include:
- $280 million to procure dual-power locomotives to replace aging diesel locomotives. The new dual-power locomotives will enable electric train service where overhead wire is available and enable new express train service to New York City, state officials said.

- $61 million to reconfigure the interchanges of I-91, I-691, and Route 15 in Meriden.

- $51.7 millon for almost 100 roadway-related projects.

- $35 million to build a new Enfield Train Station on the Hartford Line.

- $30 million to maintain roads.

- $13.5 million to support local transit districts, including capital projects and the procurement of new vehicles.

- $13 million for grants for 24 bridge improvement projects.

- $12 million to renovate the Derby-Shelton Multimodal Station.

- $12 million for an additional round of grant awards to local projects that improve roadway safety and access for pedestrians and bicyclists.
