The manufacturing company that’s consolidating its New Haven and Massachusetts plants to a former gun factory in North Haven has received a $1.8 million loan and a $250,000 training grant, according to the state Department of Economic and Community Development.
C. Cowles & Co., which bought Marlin Firearms’ former North Haven factory in May, has hired 59 new workers to add to its existing staff of 116. The grant will support training of the new workers.
C. Cowles has used the loan to finance the move, acquire the Marlin building, conduct environmental remediation and make upgrades.
The company acquired the property in May. Marlin vacated the factory in 2011, three years after being acquired by Remington.
DECD will forgive up to $885,125 of the loan if C. Cowles meets or exceeds its job creation and retention commitments.
