Startup Bristol competition doubles funding for ’17

StartUp Bristol, a city contest for entrepreneurs, has doubled grant funding to $100,000 for its second business plan competition.

The competition encourages small business owners and entrepreneurs to locate in Bristol or existing businesses to expand in the city.

This year, individual awards, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis, will be no less than $20,000 and no greater than $50,000.

“This signifies my continuing commitment to expanding the city’s economic development efforts to attract new businesses and encouraging existing businesses to grow,” said Bristol Mayor Ken Cockayne.

Launched in 2015, the inaugural competition had $50,000 in grant money. Three winners were selected from a slate of 35 applicants in March of 2016. Asarasi Inc. and Krust Pizza and Bourbon Bar won $22,500 each to locate in Bristol; Bristol CT Yoga & Café won $5,000 to expand, organizers said.
