Stanley B&D’s gyro screwdriver turns heads

Stanley Black & Decker is introducing this fall what the New Britain hand- and power-tool maker claims is the industry’s first cordless screwdriver to use a wrist-twist to control speed and direction.

Stanley B&D says a patent is pending on its Black & Decker Gyro 4V Max whose gyroscopic technology allows users to turn their wrists to set the rotation direction and speed to tighten or loosen screws.

Traditional power screwdrivers rely on a switch to control those motions, the company said.

The Gyro 4V will be marketed for under $40 beginning in October at Lowe’s, Walmart, Amazon and on BlackandDecker.com.
