Stanley B&D moves up sustainability index

New Britain tool maker Stanley Black & Decker has been named a sector mover in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America.

The index reviews the top 10 percent largest companies on the Dow Jones on economic, environmental and social issues.

Stanley posted the largest proportional improvement in sustainability performance among the 13 companies in the durable household goods sector, according to the 2012 Dow Jones index.

As a result, national audit firm KPMG, which has an office in Hartford, ranked Stanley as a sector mover and gave the company a Bronze Class Sustainability Leader award.
