Stanford drops Aetna as administrator

Stanford University is replacing Hartford-based Aetna Inc. with Health Net Inc. to administer medical coverage to the private California university’s undergraduate and graduate pupils.

The switch is effective Sept. 1, Health Net said Monday.

Health Net of California will manage Cardinal Care’s approximately 8,000 enrollees who seek care at the campus’ Vaden Health Center.

For the first time, coverage will be extended during  the 2010-2011 term to spouses, domestic partners and children of Stanford students, Health Net said.
